Scholarships for Camp Rising Sun Alumni

As a part of the CRS Alumni Community, alums are eligible to apply for several scholarship and educational development opportunities. Please see below for more information!

George E. Jonas (GEJ) Scholarships

Thanks to the generosity of the Georges Lurcy Trust, CRS alumni, and friends, LAJF offers scholarships for the undergraduate, graduate, and PhD level to CRS alumni studying in the United States. The scholarship fund is dedicated to the memory of George E. ("Freddie") Jonas, founder and benefactor of Camp Rising Sun.

What is available: The total amount of funding for GEJ Scholarships varies from year to year. In the past, scholarship awards have ranged from about $1,000 to about $5,000 to go towards tuition or expenses such such as college-provided housing and college-provided meals, since the award is sent directly to your institution.

Who is eligible: All CRS alums, including former Camp staff are eligible to apply. The selection criteria include intellectual ability, character, financial need and an evaluation of the applicant's experience at Camp and future promise for fostering the values of Camp Rising Sun. In the past, the Scholarship Committee has awarded five scholarships per year.

How to apply: Applications for the regular GEJ Scholarship program for the 2026-27 academic year are now open. Please click below to apply, based on level of study. Applications are due no later than August 2, 2026.

*Note, as of July 2, 2026, the format of the application has been updated to Google Forms, due to technical difficulties with the original form. The links below have been updated accordingly. Please reach out to us at business@lajf.org if you have any questions.

Fellowship at LAJF

The Fellowship with the Louis August Jonas Foundation is an opportunity, open only to CRS alumni, to learn about non-profit work while executing a project or several small projects that will further the work of LAJF. Launched in the summer of 2015, Fellow projects have included a re-design of lajf.org, Vigil Letter outreach, creation of a sustainability plan, and social media based alumni engagement. Fellows earn a $3,000 stipend for completing 300 hours of service. Applicants must be a minimum of 18 years of age to apply.
