Hello Californian alumni,
This summer we will be sending seven teenagers to Camp Rising Sun from California! You are warmly invited to a send-off party with our 2018 campers and their families.
As our campers are from different parts of California, we will be having two simultaneous events: one in the Bay Area and one in Los Angeles. Both parties will be from 2pm-5pm on Saturday, May 26th. Join us in congratulating our newest campers, sharing your camp stories, and maybe even singing a camp song or two!
If you're in Northern California: The event will be hosted by Lila Mack ('15) and her family in Palo Alto.
If you're in Southern California: The event will be hosted by alumnus Eric Beckman and his wife Jaynee in Los Angeles.

We will meet at 2400 Park Avenue South, Minneapolis on Sunday the 28th of April at 8 AM, and volunteer until noon.

Messiah Church and Lutheran Social Service of MN at the Center For Changing Lives build ridges that help individuals connect as human beings and create community. The Vision of LSS is that all people have the opportunity to live and work in the community with dignity, safety, and hope. The Center for Changing Lives offers a web of interconnected services for easy access – breaking down barriers between providers and resources and building a pathway to prosperity. The Food Pantry is a large part of that vision and relies on the support of volunteers to help provide a response to the many challenges faced by people
in the Phillips West neighborhood.
Help is needed from 8:00 AM until noon on Saturday, April 28. Duties include setting out food items, bagging groceries, assisting people from the community who come, preparing & serving food, and helping with clean up (bilingual volunteers would be a great help).
Camp is beautiful in the Spring! The trees are blooming, the pond is thawing, and summer is in sight. Join the CRS community to experience every step of making syrup from tapping the trees to bottling. This is a great activity for the whole family for what has become a CRS tradition.

It is a two hour drive from New York City. If you are driving and have spare seats and would like to carpool, please let us know in the registration form.
The nearest train station to camp is Rhinecliff. There are trains to Rhinecliff from Penn Station (NYC). It is a 15 minute car ride from the train station to camp. We will provide rides from Rhinecliff to camp on Friday for selected train arrivals in the afternoon. In addition to filling out the registration form, please email email@example.com if you wish to be picked up from the train station. We will also coordinate rides to get to the train station on Sunday.

We will be raising the tents on the hill and uncovering the pool. We also have special projects and need many hands to paint, help construct an Adirondack shelter, repair banisters and more! In return for your hard work will be delicious food from our new smoker, good conversations and a campfire Saturday night.
We would like to invite all alumni and friends of CRS to join us from the 11th through the 14th of March, and to give a hand with building the new shelter on tent hill and other spring-time projects. There will be in- and outdoor projects, syrup-making and instructions! All in all, a spring-break with all the camp-spirit we remember.
If you are up for an extended weekend of project time and fun, you can sign up clicking here. Everyone is welcome – even if you are not able to come for the entire Spring break, but just want to come up for a day or two. This event is free. We will provide food and lodging in thanks for your hard work.

We invite you to visit Camp Rising Sun on August 26th. It will be a day full of activities and a great opportunity to visit the place where your sons are creating so many memories. Regardless of whether you will visit us or not, transportation for all campers will be provided to go back to New York City (The Cloisters). Please keep in mind that we are counting on host families to open their homes again at the end of camp for 2 nights. Campers will work out hosting arrangements with our assistance and we will do our best to inform you about your guests at least 1 week before camp ends.
CRS 2016 May Alumni Retreat At Camp Rising Sun
Meet your campmates, old friends, and new friends at the CRS Alumni May Retreat at Clinton on May 21st and 22nd. Join fellow alumni and their families in the beautiful Hudson Valley. Activities will putting up tents, other projects to prepare for the 2016 season, and fun for all ages. Sleepover in the tents on tent hill or bunk in twin beds in the cabins.

TRANSPORTATION: If you plan on taking the train to the retreat, we are prepared to meet the Amtrak train #63 on Saturday morning. That train departs New York Penn Station at 7:15 am and arrives into Rhinecliff at 9:00 am. Tickets are available starting at $28, but prices may increase as the travel date approaches. We are also prepared to bring guests to the station on Sunday for Amtrak train #238 departing Rhinecliff at 12:52 pm and arriving into Penn Station at 2:45 pm. Tickets are available starting at $28. If you expect to travel by train and will be arriving/departing at a different time, taxis are available at the station.
If you plan on being on the designated train on Saturday, please let us know no later than Thursday May 19, 2015.
